Frequently Asked Questions 

  • How much is the deposit?
    Full payment must be completed before the sail date.
  • What are the cancellation policies?
    If a group cancels the booking before 30 days of the sailing time, they will be given a full refund. If a group cancels the booking less than 30 days before sailing time, they will receive a credit good for 36 months of the intended date.
  • How many people are allowed on the boat?
    Defiant can hold 12 guests per order of the United States Coast Guard. If there are more than 12 guests, we can arrange for a larger boat, or a two boat tandem.
  • What can we do during the trip?
    Guests can either anchor at a local cove and swim, take a slow cruise around Shelter Island, or stop for lunch at many of the waterfront restaurants.
  • What are the best waterfront restaurants?

  • What if the weather is bad?
    1. If the chartered voyage is cancelled, due to inclement weather, the guest will be entitled to a credit good for 36 months to reschedule. 2. The Captain (Master) may cancel and or terminate the chartered voyage due to inclement weather, including but not limited to small craft advisories, NOAA and or US Coast Guard warnings.
  • Where can I park?
    Depending on pickup location, there are public lots or private marina lots. Your captain will reach out to you prior to your departure date with more information.
  • What should I bring for the trip?
    Please bring sunscreen, towels, food, drinks, and any alcohol (please not red wine because it stains). We provide ice and bottled water for your trip.
  • Do you have a blog?
    Yes, the CiTH blog can be found here.
  • What are the safety regulations onboard?
    1. All boats were equipped with all United States Coast Guard safety regulations such as life jackets, flares, first aid kits, and much more. 2. The captain will give a brief announcement before departure highlighting the specific vessel’s amenities as well as safety procedures.
  • Can I take pets onboard?
    No, pets are not allowed onboard.
  • Can I smoke onboard?
    No smoking of any kind is allowed on the boat.
  • What happens if something is wrong with the boat?
    If the vessel becomes unable to perform as required, the guests will be given a credit for the time loss for a future date.
