Montauk is the big day on the water. It sits at the far eastern tip of Long Island, so reaching it by boat is a trip in itself, not a quick loop around the harbor. A Montauk charter with Charters in The Hamptons is a full-day cruise to The End and back, with a licensed captain at the helm and a larger boat under you. We bring you out, you spend the day at the harbor, and we get you home. On the right calm day, it's hard to beat.

How a cruise to Montauk works
We don't keep a boat at The End. We cruise you there. Most trips leave from our Shelter Island home dock or from Sag Harbor, and the run east takes a couple of hours each way, depending on the boat and the conditions. That makes it a full-day charter, not an afternoon outing.
Because the water gets more open as you head east, we run this trip on a larger, more capable boat, and we pick calm days for it. We're one of the private yacht charters in the Hamptons set up to make the run in comfort. Our flagship Pershing yachts and other larger vessels handle the distance well, so you can relax and watch the coast roll by.
The dock-and-dine day at Montauk Harbor
The heart of the day is Montauk Harbor, the protected basin at the head of Lake Montauk. We pull in, tie up, and you step off for lunch or a drink on the water. Gosman's Dock, a Montauk tradition since 1947, sits right at the harbor inlet with its famous clam bar and waterfront tables. The marinas at Star Island are here too, including the Montauk Yacht Club. It's an easy, salty afternoon: eat, walk the docks, and soak up the End-of-the-Island feel before the cruise home.
What you'll see on the water
Depending on the day and the conditions, a cruise to The End can take in:
-
Montauk Point Lighthouse, the historic light at the very tip of Long Island, which we can cruise toward on a calm day.
-
Lake Montauk and Montauk Harbor, the protected waters where the marinas and restaurants sit.
-
Gosman's Dock at the harbor inlet, a local fixture for decades.
-
The Star Island marinas, home to the area's biggest boats.
-
Navy Beach, a relaxed stretch of sand on Fort Pond Bay, on the quieter side of town.
Ways to charter
Pick the trip that fits your group:
-
Full-day cruise to Montauk. The signature trip: out to The End, a long lunch at the harbor, and back.
-
Fishing charters. The waters off the Point are some of the best fishing on the East Coast. Ask about our Montauk fishing charters.
-
Sunset cruises. On a calm evening, golden hour off the eastern tip is something special.
-
Group and event charters. Private and captained, with room on our larger boats for a bigger group.
Why a captained charter, not a rental
For a trip like this, a captain matters even more. The run east crosses open water, and the conditions can change. A USCG-licensed captain handles the navigation, the weather calls, and the docking, so you don't have to think about any of it. With a self-rental, you'd be doing all of that yourself, and most rentals won't let you take a boat this far anyway. You need no experience and no license with us. You just enjoy the ride. Once you know your group size, you can view our fleet of charter yachts and pick the right boat for the distance.

Planning your Montauk day
A few honest notes, so the day goes smoothly. The trip is weather-dependent. The open water means we only make the run on calm days, and your captain has the final say on conditions. It's the kind of trip that rewards a flexible schedule, so if you have a couple of possible dates, tell us and we'll aim for the calmest one. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll move your trip to another day. Plan on a full day out, bring layers in case it's breezy offshore, and let us know if you want to time lunch at the harbor or a swim along the way.
What to bring and good to know
Keep it simple:
-
Bring your own food and drinks for the cruise. A cooler is welcome.
-
Pack towels, sunscreen, soft-soled shoes, and a light layer for the open water.
-
We provide USCG life jackets for everyone aboard.
-
Traveling with kids? Under New York law, children under 12 wear a life jacket on boats under 65 feet while the boat is moving. We carry the right sizes.
A word on weather: we don't sail in unsafe conditions, and that goes double for the run east. If your captain calls it off, you won't lose your money, and we'll help you reschedule. Safety comes first.

What a Montauk charter costs
It's a full day on a larger boat, so it costs more than a short local cruise. Pricing depends on the boat, the length of the day, and the season, with bigger boats and peak summer dates at the top end. We give you an upfront quote before you book, with no hidden fees. You're paying for a licensed captain, a capable boat, and a full day at The End that you don't have to plan or steer yourself.
