The North Fork looks its best from the water. From the deck of a private boat, you'll see farm-country shoreline, working harbors, and old lighthouses that most visitors drive right past. A North Fork charter with Charters in The Hamptons puts you out on Peconic Bay with a licensed captain at the helm. We can pick you up right in Greenport, so you skip the long drive and the ferry line. All you bring is your group and a cooler.

Cruising the North Fork with us

The North Fork is the quieter twin of the South Fork. Less flash, more farmland, working docks, and open water. Our captained trips run across Peconic Bay, the wide stretch of protected water between the two forks.

We're based on Shelter Island, right in the middle of it all. As one of the private yacht charters in the Hamptons run from the water itself, we can reach Greenport, the bay shoreline, and open water fast. You get more time on the boat and less time in transit.

Our fleet ranges from quick sport boats to flagship Pershing yachts, so we can match the boat to your group and your plan. You can view our fleet of charter yachts and tell us which one fits your day.

Every trip is private. It's just your group, your captain, and the boat you picked. No strangers, no shared tours, no set script. Tell us what you're after, and we'll build the day around it.

A Lure

What you'll see on the water

Here's some of what a North Fork cruise can take in, depending on your route:

  • Robins Island, where boaters raft up off the open north neck on summer weekends. The island itself is private, so we admire it from the water

  • The Long Beach Bar “Bug” Lighthouse, a local favorite for photos.

  • Orient Point Lighthouse out in Plum Gut, plus the sandy shoreline at Orient Beach State Park.

  • The bluffs near Kontokosta Winery, the North Fork's only waterfront vineyard, set high above the Long Island Sound side.

  • New Suffolk, a quiet little hamlet on the bay that's easy to miss by car.

A quick, honest note about the vineyards: almost every North Fork winery sits inland, so it needs a car to reach. Kontokosta is the one waterfront winery, but it's perched on a bluff over the Sound, not a place you can pull a boat up to. The plan most groups love is simple: cruise the shoreline, take in the farm-country views, then dock and drive to a tasting room after. We'll point you to the closest landings.

Ways to charter the North Fork

Pick the trip that fits your group:

  • Sunset cruises. Head out for golden hour and watch the sun drop over the bay. Ask us about North Fork sunset cruises.

  • Eco and nature cruises. Quiet runs along the shoreline and into calm coves, where you'll often spot ospreys and shore birds. These grow out of our Shelter Island eco tours.

  • Family days. Easy, calm-water trips with the kids. Life jackets are on board in every size.

  • Bachelorette, engagement, and corporate groups. Private, captained, and built around your event.

  • Fishing charters. Cast a line on the bay with a captain who knows the spots. Book one of our North Fork fishing charters.

Why a captained charter, not a rental

This is the big difference between us and the self-rental and watersports spots on the North Fork. With a self-rental, you have to drive the boat yourself. That usually means you need boating experience, a license, and a sizable security deposit before you can even leave the dock.

Every one of our charters comes with a USCG-licensed captain who runs the boat for you. So you need zero boating experience. No license. No big deposit. You just show up and enjoy the ride. Our captains know Peconic Bay well, including the legal places to swim and anchor. That matters here, because public beaches along the bay shoreline are scarce.

Getting on board and North Fork pickup

We offer custom pickup right in Greenport, the North Fork's main harbor village. That's a real advantage in summer. You don't have to fight Hamptons traffic or wait in a Shelter Island ferry line to reach your boat. You meet us in Greenport, and you're on the water.

Our home dock is on Shelter Island, and we can also pick up at Sag Harbor on the South Fork. A standard charter runs about 4 hours. We also offer half-day and full-day trips, plus overnight stays on select boats. Want custom pickup in Greenport? Just tell us when you book, and we'll set it up.

What to bring and good to know

Keep it simple. Here's what helps:

  • Bring your own food and drinks. A cooler is welcome

  • Pack towels, sunscreen, and soft-soled shoes.

  • We provide USCG life jackets for everyone on board.

  • Traveling with kids? Under New York law, children under 12 wear a life jacket on boats under 65 feet while the boat is moving. We carry the right sizes.

A word on weather: we don't sail in unsafe conditions, and a day on the bay is no fun in the rain. If your captain has to call off the trip for weather, you won't lose your money. We'll work with you to reschedule for another day. Safety on the water always comes first.

What a North Fork charter costs

We get this question a lot, so here's a straight answer. Charter pricing depends on a few things: the boat you pick, how long you're out (a half day, the standard 4 hours, or a full day), and the time of year. Bigger boats and peak summer dates cost more. We give you an upfront quote before you book, with no hidden fees. A private captained day costs more than driving a small rental yourself, but you get a licensed captain, a boat matched to your group, and a day you don't have to work for.
