Sag Harbor is one of the best places on the South Fork to step onto a boat. The village wraps right around a deep, protected harbor, so you can walk down to Long Wharf and be on the water in minutes. A Sag Harbor charter with Charters in The Hamptons means a private boat, a licensed captain, and a historic whaling town waiting for you when you get back. It's a favorite for sunset cruises and for groups.

The Dock House

Charters from Long Wharf

Long Wharf is the heart of Sag Harbor's waterfront, and it's where your day starts. The harbor here is deep and sheltered, which makes for an easy, calm departure. Park in the village, walk to the wharf, and step aboard.

We're one of the private yacht charters in the Hamptons that runs from the water itself. Our home base is just across the bay at our Shelter Island home dock, a short hop away, so when you book a Sag Harbor pickup we bring the boat to Long Wharf. You spend your time on the water, not driving to it.

Sunset and lighthouse cruises

This is what Sag Harbor does best. Head out at golden hour and watch the sun drop over the bay, with the village skyline behind you. On a clear evening we can cruise out toward the old Cedar Island Lighthouse, a granite tower that has stood off Cedar Point in Gardiners Bay since the 1800s. It's a quiet, scenic run, and it makes for the kind of photos people frame.

What you'll see on the water

Depending on your route, a Sag Harbor cruise can take in:

  • The windmill at the end of Long Wharf, the village's most photographed landmark.

  • The Lance Corporal Jordan Haerter Veterans Memorial Bridge, named for a local Marine, connecting the village to North Haven.

  • Cedar Island Lighthouse, the historic granite light out on Gardiners Bay.

  • Sag Harbor Bay and Noyac Bay, calm, open water that's easy to cruise.

  • Foster Memorial Beach on Noyac Bay, a local favorite for sunsets.

Back in town, the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum tells the story of the village's whaling days, if you want a little history before or after your trip.

Great for groups and events

Sag Harbor is a natural fit for a celebration. We run private charters for bachelorette and engagement parties, corporate outings, birthdays, and family reunions. It's just your group, your captain, and the boat you picked, built around your plans. For bigger groups, our larger boats, including our flagship Pershing yachts, give you room to spread out. Tell us your headcount and we'll match you to the right vessel.

Ways to charter

Pick the trip that fits your group:

  • Sunset cruises. Golden hour over the bay, with the village behind you. Ask about our Sag Harbor sunset cruises.

  • Lighthouse and nature cruises. A scenic run out toward Cedar Island Lighthouse and the calm water of Gardiners Bay.

  • Family days. Easy, calm-water trips with the kids. Life jackets are on board in every size.

  • Group and event charters. Private and captained for bachelorette parties, corporate days, and celebrations.

  • Fishing charters. Cast a line with a captain who knows the local spots.

Why a captained charter, not a rental

You don't need any experience to come aboard. A USCG-licensed captain runs the boat, so there's no license to show and no big security deposit to put down. With a self-rental, you'd be driving the boat yourself, and that means experience, paperwork, and a deposit before you leave the dock. We'd rather you relax. Our captains know the harbor, the bay, and the best spots to anchor and swim. Once you know your group size, you can view our fleet of charter yachts and pick the right boat.

Getting on board and Sag Harbor pickup

Sag Harbor pickup is easy. You meet us at Long Wharf, right in the village, with parking and restaurants a short walk away. A standard charter runs about 4 hours, with half-day and full-day options, plus overnight stays on select boats. Want to make a full day of it? From Sag Harbor you can also cruise on to Montauk on a calm day. Tell us your plan and we'll set it up.

What to bring and good to know

Keep it simple:

  • Bring your own food and drinks. A cooler is welcome.

  • Pack towels, sunscreen, and soft-soled shoes.

  • We provide USCG life jackets for everyone aboard.

  • Traveling with kids? Under New York law, children under 12 wear a life jacket on boats under 65 feet while the boat is moving. We carry the right size.

A word on weather: we don't sail in unsafe conditions. If your captain calls off the trip for weather, you won't lose your money, and we'll help you reschedule. Safety comes first.

What a Sag Harbor charter costs

Pricing depends on the boat you pick, how long you're out (a half day, the standard 4 hours, or a full day), and the season. Bigger boats and peak summer dates cost more. We give you an upfront quote before you book, with no hidden fees. A private captained day costs more than a small self-rental, but you get a licensed captain, a boat sized to your group, and a day you don't have to steer.
