Charter the Hamptons from the Middle of Both Forks

There's a reason locals say the Hamptons look best from the water. The shoreline opens up, the back creeks of Shelter Island go quiet, and you start to see why people who've spent their whole summer here still take the boat out one more time. Welcome to Charters in The Hamptons — a family-run charter operation based on Shelter Island, sitting right in the middle of the Twin Forks. We’re a quick run to the North Fork, Sag Harbor, Montauk, and everywhere in between, and our boat rental in the Hamptons works as a real day on the water, not a checklist stop.

We've been chartering out of Shelter Island since 2016. Our fleet has grown to 26+ vessels, including 57' and 62' Pershing yachts, and all our captains hold USCG (US Coast Guard) licenses. Whether you want a half-day cruise, a sunset run with friends, or a full week of yacht days, we'll match you to the right boat.

Our Hamptons Charter Rental Options

We keep our charter rental options simple so you can pick what fits your day. Each one is bookable with a captain, and most vessels can be set up for swimming, sunset cruising, fishing, or a slow loop through the back creeks.

Half-day charters.

The most-booked option in our fleet. About 4 hours on the water, perfect for a swim stop, lunch at a waterfront restaurant, or a sunset run. Good first-time choice if you’re not sure what you want. See our half-day charter rentals for vessel options.

Full-day charters.

Roughly 8 hours, enough time to hop islands, cross over to a North Fork winery dock, anchor for lunch, and still get back before dark. Our full-day charter rentals page covers what’s included.

Pershing yacht charters.

If you want the upgrade, we run 57' and 62' Pershings out of Shelter Island. They’re fast, smooth, and have the deck space for a real group. More on the Pershing yacht charters.

Captained charters.

Every charter we run includes a USCG-licensed captain. You don’t drive — we do. That means no boating certificate needed for you, no anchor worries, and a captain who actually knows the waters here. Browse our captained charters with USCG captain.

Bachelorette and bachelor parties.

One of our most-booked groups. We’ve done sunset Pershing runs, all-day island hops, the whole thing. Details on our bachelorette party charters.

Hamptons fishing charters.

If your group wants rods in the water instead of cocktails on deck, our Hamptons fishing charters are set up for it.

We also run overnight yacht charters, corporate event charters, engagement and proposal charters, family charters, and trips to Fishers Island. These pages are coming as we publish them.

Pickup Locations Across The Hamptons and North Fork

This is where Shelter Island earns its keep. We're roughly equidistant from the North Fork and the South Fork, which means we can pick you up wherever your weekend is based — no two-hour drive to get to the boat.

  • Shelter Island (home base). Our marina at 63 Menantic Road. Easy if you’re already on the island or coming over on the ferry.

  • Greenport (North Fork). Custom pickup for guests staying out east on the North Fork — Greenport, Southold, Cutchogue, Mattituck, and the surrounding towns. Sag Harbor.

  • Custom pickup for South Fork guests staying in Sag Harbor, East Hampton, Bridgehampton, or Southampton.

Most of our competitors only pick up in Sag Harbor or the South Fork. We’re the easier option if your weekend is on the North Fork side or you’re crossing over for a wedding, a winery day, or a stay in Greenport.

Our Fleet — 26+ Vessels Including 57' and 62' Pershing Yachts

We run a fleet of 26+ vessels, so there's almost always something that fits your group size and your idea of a good day. A few highlights:

  • Pershing 62. Italian-built, made for speed and a comfortable deck. Great for groups that want a yacht experience with the engine to back it up.

  • Pershing 57. Same Pershing DNA, slightly smaller deck. Easy choice for smaller groups who still want the upgrade.

  • Mid-sized center consoles and cruisers. Our most-booked half-day boats. Comfortable for families, good for a swim stop, and easy to dock at a restaurant.

  • Smaller charter boats. For couples, eco tours of the back creeks, or low-key sunset runs.

We pair you to the boat based on your group size, your stops, and what you want out of the day. If you have a wedding party of 20 going to a dockside restaurant, that’s a different boat than a couple looking for a quiet eco-tour. Just tell us what you’re picturing.

Why Charter With Us

We're cousins. We grew up in the marina business on Shelter Island, on these exact waters. That's not a marketing line — it's the reason we know where the back creeks are still calm when the bay is choppy, which dock at Greenport gets crowded first on a Saturday, and which restaurants will hold a slip for you on short notice.

A few things that actually matter:

  • All captains hold USCG (US Coast Guard) licenses. Every charter, every boat, every time. No exceptions.

  • Founded in 2016. A decade of running this same stretch of water.

  • Team of 11. Big enough to run a 26+ vessel fleet, small enough that we know our regulars.

  • Centrally located between the Twin Forks. Shelter Island is the shortcut.

  • Seasonal Membership program. For repeat charter clientele — priority booking, last-minute discounted rates, and access we don't offer the public.

We're not the biggest charter company in the Hamptons. We're the one based on Shelter Island.

Service Area and Destinations

A typical day on the water can cover a lot of ground from Shelter Island. Here's where we go:

  • Shelter Island back creeks. Coecles Harbor, Dering Harbor, and the quiet coves on the south side. Best for eco tours and lunch anchors.

  • North Fork. Greenport for restaurants and a town stop, Southold, Cutchogue, and out to Orient Point. Easy winery-day option if you dock at Greenport and Uber from there.

  • Sag Harbor. Lunch on the wharf, sunset runs, dock-and-dine.

  • Montauk. Long day trip from Shelter Island, but doable on a full-day charter — and a memorable one.

  • Fishers Island. Off the beaten path, beautiful, and a real adventure run.

  • Plum Island and Gardiners Bay. Good for fishing days and quieter swim anchors.

We're licensed to operate across the East End of Long Island. If you have a specific dock or restaurant in mind, ask — odds are good we already know it.

If you're a repeat charter guest, ask about our Seasonal Membership — priority booking and last-minute rates that don't show up on the public site.

For general New York boating safety information, see the US Coast Guard's boating safety site — though if you’re chartering with us, our captain handles all of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to rent a boat in the Hamptons? Charter rental pricing in the Hamptons varies by boat size, length of charter, and date. Half-day charters on smaller vessels typically start lower; full-day charters on a 57' or 62' Pershing yacht run higher. Peak weekends (July and August) book up first and price differently than shoulder weekends. Call (631) 251-1777 for a quote on your specific date.

Do you need a license to rent a boat in the Hamptons? No — not when you charter with us. All our captains hold USCG licenses, which means the captain is the operator and you're a guest. New York's Brianna's Law (effective January 1, 2025) requires all motorized boat operators to carry a boating safety certificate, but that rule applies to the person driving. With a captained charter, that's our job, not yours.

Can you rent a boat with a captain in the Hamptons? Yes — every charter we run includes a USCG-licensed captain. We don't do bareboat (uncaptained) rentals. The captain handles the driving, the docking, the anchoring, and the local knowledge. You and your group focus on the day. It's the easier and safer way to spend time on Hamptons waters.

What is the best month to rent a boat in the Hamptons? Late June through early September is peak season — warm water, long days, full restaurant scenes. July and August book up first. If you want quieter waters and easier dock reservations, mid-June and mid-September are the locals' picks. Water is still warm, crowds are thinner, and pricing is often softer.

How many people can fit on a Hamptons boat rental? It depends on the boat. Smaller vessels in our fleet are set up for 4 to 6 guests. Our larger boats and 57' and 62' Pershing yachts can host bigger groups for bachelorette parties, corporate events, and weddings. Tell us your headcount and we'll match you to a boat with the right Coast Guard capacity for the day.

Where can I rent a boat in the Hamptons? You can rent a boat in the Hamptons through us at our Shelter Island home base — 63 Menantic Road — with custom pickup available at Greenport on the North Fork and Sag Harbor on the South Fork. Most charter companies pick up from one location only. We run all three.

Do you offer pickup at Greenport on the North Fork? Yes. Greenport is one of our custom pickup locations. If you're staying on the North Fork — Greenport, Southold, Cutchogue, Mattituck — we can pick you up from the Greenport waterfront so you don't have to make the drive to Shelter Island. Just tell us when you book.
